It's deeply unfortunate that after dedicating 50 years of his life to Garfield Public Schools, Mr. Frank Dawson's contributions have not been recognized with the honor of having the athletic complex named after him. His dedication and unwavering commitment have undoubtedly shaped the very essence of what the complex represents today.

While the decision not to name the complex after him feels like a lack of recognition, it does not diminish the profound impact he has had on the community and the countless lives he has touched through his work. The legacy he built over half a century will endure far beyond any name on a building.

Having worked with him in varied capacities, he always demonstrated integrity and dedication.  He just did what was best for the students and the district with both athletics and academics.  It is clear that his past efforts have helped create a place that countless people enjoy, and that in itself is a lasting tribute to his dedication. Mr. Dawson's influence is embedded in the memories, the moments, and the spirit of the complex—something a name alone could never fully capture.

Please know that his work is appreciated by many, even if this particular honor was not granted. The real testament to his contribution lies in the thriving community and the continued use of the complex that he worked so tirelessly to support.

Yet, could a compromise not be sought?  How about “Frank Dawson City of Champions Athletic Complex”?  Did these people witness his dedication?  Did they inquire about his 50 years of intense service to our athletics?  This man sat in what could be called a “dungeon”, yet he was satisfied to work in this environment and work he did!  What does it take for someone to be considered for recognition?
